It was a school assignment. I didn’t think much of it.

My science teacher told us we needed to take DNA sample and send it to some weird lab, I really didn’t care what happened.

But after a few weeks, my classmates started to get their DNA results back. Becky found out that her family was actually from the southern part of France, not Spain. Travis discovered that his dad’s family came from Norway, and his mom’s from Lithuania. It wasn’t long before everyone got their results in, but me. Almost two months after the assignment was due, I got a phone call from the DNA testing lab.

“Mr. Davis, we discovered something peculiar in your DNA sample. You have origin markers that don’t make sense. You may live here, but your family don’t hail from anywhere on the planet. Not anywhere that exists now.”

I stared off into the distance.

I may live here, but my family isn’t from anywhere on the planet.
How does that work? How does that even make sense?
Am I from Atlantis or something?

I didn’t think much of this school assignment. Little did I know, it would change the course of human history.
